Peace Happens

CP1D Invites All People to Join in Action & Celebration To Create Tangible Peace, Non-Violence & Community Building For the International Day of Peace the Week of September 14-21.

The International Day of Peace is approaching and CP1D is working again to join our citizens together in action and celebration! CP1D is taking a different approach this year in order to expand the reach and impact with a new campaign, PEACE HAPPENS: One Week of Peace. The PEACE HAPPENS campaign is asking for individuals, businesses, non-profits, organizations, educators, media sources, faith circles, and all citizen groups to take action throughout South Carolina in their own unique way. The goal is to inspire us each to collectively do our part in working toward a culture of non-violence, intercultural cooperation, and humanitarian action that is relevant to our everyday lives.

Earth Day was set to mark a day where people could responsibly take steps toward protecting the earth.  Peace Day is a day where the global community comes together to create responsible acts for saving and protecting all peoples, and resources of this planet.  It is a day of non-violence, of respect, and intercultural cooperation.

For the last 3 years, CP1D has made an impact by hosting a festival that has reached over 4,000 people to celebrate and teach peace, non-violence, and intercultural cooperation in Charleston through entertainment, education, and action.  We have seen this day work both locally and globally to inspire and bring about humanitarian action and education that wouldn't be possible without the day's call to action. Because of the festival, there are now year-round education programs that teach non-violence in schools and other special programs. Last year, on the United Nations’ International Day of Peace and Ceasefire there were recorded celebrations in 192 countries including the City of Charleston.

“The UN International Day of Peace on 21 September every year is not only about creating peace between nations, it’s about non-violence in our homes, communities and schools. Therefore Peace Day is relevant to every human being on the planet." www.peaceoneday.org

As awareness spreads...So does change! During the PEACE HAPPENS week, CP1D will work challenge, document and connect all the action that takes place throughout South Carolina, showing how our citizens are actively working to bring violence levels down throughout our state. The goal is to engage over eighty separate initiatives all over the state. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE IMPACT!

Last year we had over 80 groups participate in Peace Week. WHAT WILL YOU DO TO CREATE PEACE IN YOUR COMMUNITY? TAKE PART. SEND CP1D YOUR COMMITMENT FOR THE WEEK OF PEACE TODAY! CP1D will get you PEACE HAPPENS resources and stickers and publicize what you are doing to make a difference.
